Breast Cancer: Caring for Your Breast and Wellness

October 06, 2021

12.5% of Women Develop Breast Cancer During the Course of Their Lifetime.

Despite Breast Cancer being so scary and common, it can be cured if detected early. To ensure that the signs of breast cancer are caught early, one needs to do the following.

1. Undergo Periodic Screening:

Women aged 40 and above should undergo a mammogram, the screening procedure for breast cancer on a bi-annual basis. People with a family history should undergo screening on an annual basis or as often as recommended by a doctor. Similarly, women who are genetically predisposed to cancer may undergo screening from the age of 30.

2.Self-Examination of Breasts:

Every adult woman, irrespective of age should conduct self-examination for breasts on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The breasts should be visually examined for any swelling or lumps. Similarly, it should also be checked for abnormal secretions. The underarms should also be felt for any lumps or swelling. If any abnormality is noticed a doctor should be consulted at the earliest.

3. Following Lifestyle Changes:

While a poor lifestyle isn’t the sole factor that contributes to breast cancer, it certainly alleviates it. Partaking in exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, and avoiding unhealthy junk food may help in preventing cancer.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let us unite and do everything it takes to conquer Breast Cancer. Together, we can make a huge difference. All we need to do is to take the right initiative at the right time.
